I – INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY CONSTELLATIONS AND SYSTEMIC REPRESENTATIONS

The French Institute of Family and Systemic Constellations was founded with the goal of offering a structured, in-depth training in the techniques of family, relational, professional, ancestral, and therapeutic constellations, and to certify professionals in the fields of medicine, psychotherapy, personal development, coaching, counselling, health, and well-being in the practice and instruction of these methods. It provides to the public a list of practitioners or mediators/constellators in Family Constellations and Systemic Representations who are certified by both its Certification and Ethical Commissions.
According to the current legislation of the country in question, mediators in Family Constellations and Systemic Representations may work in the following areas:

- counselling
- coaching
- personal development
- organisations (such as businesses, institutions, associations…)
- social work
- education
- the medical and paramedical fields
- psychotherapy
- athletics
- the arts
(This list is non-exhaustive.)

The training courses in Family Constellations and Systemic Representations are also open to participants who do not wish to obtain a certification.
The techniques of Family Constellations and Systemic Representations are based on both Eastern and Western traditional knowledge as well as more modern systemic methods.
The French Institute of Family and Systemic Constellations trains constellators/mediators, who are practitioners of Family Constellations and Systemic Representations. During personal consultations, group sessions, workshops, or seminars, they pass on their knowledge and practical methods, which do not include any form of medical diagnosis or therapy. Likewise, consultations with a mediator are not oriented towards psychotherapy, a domain which is reserved for specially-trained and practicing therapists. The orientation of these methods is “systemic,” that is, they are addressed not only to the individual, but also – and always – to the family, ancestral, tribal, ethnic, national, social, or professional system to which the individual belongs.
The certificates provided by the French Institute of Family and Systemic Constellations only authorise mediators to practice within the context of the professional legislation specific to each country. The mediator assumes full responsibility for the application of his knowledge and practical methods, and his relationship with his client is one of mutual consent.
Conscious of the originality and specific difficulties of his approach, the mediator is attentive not to enter into competition or conflict with professional practitioners of related or complementary methods, seeking harmony and conciliation and with a respect for human dignity.
